Precipitation of less than 25.4 mm can be read directly on the tube. If they exceed 25.4 mm, the surplus is discharged into an outer cylinder and is then measured by pouring into the measuring tube. In the case of snow precipitation measurements, the funnel and the tube to be measured is removed. The diameter of the gauge orifice is 102 mm and its height is 355 mm.
